Did you know 5,500 puppies and kittens are born each hour in the United States? Consider these facts:

·   In just six years, one female dog and her offspring can be the source of 67,000 puppies.
·   In seven years, one cat and her young can produce 420,000 kittens.
·   For every human born in the United States, 15 dogs and 45 cats are born.

Caring for these animals consumes a lot of resources, places unnecessary strain on the environment, and potentially leads to the euthanizing of millions of animals each year. To help contain the pet population, please consider having your pet spayed or neutered.

For those individuals with a financial need, the Oregon Humane Society can assist with the cost of a spay/neuter surgery. Their website also offers discount coupons through various participating clinics.

Is your dog stylish? Do they know how to strutt on the "dogwalk"? The Oregon Humane Society is searching for Portland's hippest pooches to crown as Portland's top dog model. Dogs will be divided into two categories, large dog and small dog, and the top 10 semi-finalists in each group will compete for the crown at the Hotel Monaco on June 17.
